Statistically-Valid Multimodal Survey Results Are In!

A statistically-valid multimodal survey was conducted in the City of West Covina for the Parks and Recreation Master Plan between June 9 and June 16, 2025. The 400 household sample was developed from the census database and survey participants were randomly selected. The 8-minute survey was conducted with live U.S.-based interviewers by phone (38%) and online survey methods (62%). Phone participants were interviewed through landline (35%) and mobile (65%) calls. Online participants were invited by email (43%) and text message (57%) to access the survey by computer, tablet, or smart phone. Respondents in all modes chose their preferred language, English (90%) and Spanish (10%). Security measures precluded individuals from completing the survey more than once.

Highlights from the multimodal survey include:

  • When residents are looking for information about parks, recreation facilities, or programs 71% get information from the City’s website, online, or through Google searches.
  • 69% are satisfied with the care and maintenance of city parks and recreation facilities in West Covina.
  • 67% are satisfied with the existing parks, recreation facilities and programs in West Covina.
  • 30% utilize recreation programs in West Covina once a month or more often.
  • 41% utilize parks or recreation facilities in West Covina once a month or more often.
  • Residents would like to add or expand the following program, class, event, or activity: fitness/exercise, senior programs/activities, community events, art programs/classes, children’s activities, music/dance classes, and picnic areas.
  • Residents would like to add or improve the following park amenity, feature, or recreation facility: walking path/hiking trails/track, sports fields, swimming pool/splash pad/water park, better restrooms, more classes/activities/events, playgrounds/slides, picnic tables/benches, open space/trees/greenery, dog park, security lighting, and cleanliness/trash cans.
